What’s new on the Balearic islands?

The Balearic Islands are located in the Mediterranean near the Iberian Peninsula.  They are an island chain with four major islands, one of which is Majorca.  Hundreds of thousands of tourists flock to this rocky island every year during the summer season for the many attractions the small island boasts.

Majorca holidays would not be complete without visiting some of the beaches the island is famous for.  With more than 100 beaches on Majorca the hardest part might be choosing which one to visit.  Some beaches, such as Alcúdia, are popular for water sports while other beaches, like the Cala d’Or beaches, are known for beauty and are a favourite of photographers.  Portals Vells Beach is a favourite with bird enthusiasts because it is a nesting area for many sea birds.

Majorca has become increasingly popular for walking holidays.  With more than 300 sunny days a year it is almost always perfect weather for a trek.  Easy trails for walking, challenging peaks for hiking, there is a trail for whatever the level of walker one is.  Majorca has coastal walks, vineyard treks, country lane strolls, orchard meanderings and 4,000 ft hikes.  Enjoy a side of Majorca many do not see by getting off the beaten track and walking the island.  Walk through local villages, see old forests, find spectacular scenery on cliff-tops and discover beaches that are only accessible by foot.  Some of these paths can also be discovered by bicycling.

Ballooning is another unique way to experience Majorca as well as an adventure in itself.  See the island aboard a hot air balloon while sipping champagne.  While the itinerary often depends on the direction of the wind the experience is breath-taking since guests get to see Majorca 1,000 feet up in the air.  On really clear days it is possible to see a couple of other islands.

Other memorable activities on Majorca include deep sea kayaking, canyoning, deep sea fishing, chartering a boat, eating tapas, visiting a winery and sampling the wine, visiting the Caves of Drac, riding a ferry, mingling at the local market and visiting one of their national parks.
